Temasek Secondary School student saves woman’s life after bus accident
Diniy Qurratuaini, a student from Temasek Secondary School, was on the bus when it collided into a pedestrian.
SINGAPORE — A quick-thinking student cadet from the National Civil Defence Cadet Corps (NCDCC) sprang into action and saved a woman’s life recently with skills she had learned from the uniformed group.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday (Sept 4), the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said that Diniy Qurratuaini, a student from Temasek Secondary School, was on her way home when the bus she was on collided into a pedestrian, knocking the woman unconscious.
“Without hesitation, Diniy instructed a fellow passenger to call 995 before she rushed down to attend to the collapsed woman,” said the SCDF.
After assessing that the woman was not breathing and had no pulse, Diniy immediately performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the woman.
The woman then regained consciousness after a few cycles of CPR had been administered.
The SCDF said: “Diniy’s quick-thinking and selfless act showed that age is no barrier to saving lives.”
The student cadet stayed by the woman’s side until SCDF emergency responders arrived to render further medical assistance.
On her part, Diniy said that she only realised the magnitude of the situation after she had reached home and told her parents about her day.
“I’m glad I was there to render help and I am thankful to NCDCC for teaching me skills I can use in such life-threatening emergencies,” she said.
