Malaysia’s PR left without a leader

Malaysian opposition coalition Pakatan Rakyat (PR) will have to face life without leader Anwar Ibrahim, following the Prisons Board’s decision to reject his appeal to the king for royal pardon over the five-year prison term for sodomy. Coming at a time when the PR is contending with internal rifts between party members Parti Keadilan Rakyat, Democratic Action Party and Parti Islam Se-Malaysia, it is unclear if the parties can set aside their differences to elect a new leader to replace Anwar.

Preliminary agreement could be reached regarding Iran’s nuclear programme

Major powers and Iran could reach a preliminary accord this morning (April 2) on reining in Tehran’s nuclear programme following marathon talks that extended beyond the self-imposed March 31 deadline. While differences remain, officials said their intention was to produce a joint statement early this morning outlining general political commitments to resolving concerns about Iran’s nuclear programme in exchange for sanctions relief. In addition, they are trying to fashion other documents that would lay out in more detail the steps they must take by June 30 to meet those goals.

Weather forecast

Thundery showers are expected over many areas in the afternoon, with temperatures ranging from 24 to 33 degree Celsius.
