Traffic jam after overturned truck in TPE accident closes off Punggol Road entrance

SINGAPORE – An overturned truck in an accident on the Tampines Expressway (TPE) closed off a major road on Tuesday (Jan 2), causing a jam ahead of the evening peak hour traffic.
According to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), they were alerted to the accident – which happened at the Punggol Road entrance towards the Seletar Expressway (SLE) – at around 2.40pm.
Eyewitness Levin Foo, who lives in a flat across the site of the accident, told TODAY that her attention was drawn towards a “loud noise” on Tuesday afternoon.
When the 32-year-old looked out of her window, she saw a delivery truck lying on its side, though there appeared to be no other vehicles involved in the accident from her vantage point.
A picture by Ms Foo shows the truck lying perpendicular to the one-lane road that leads to the expressway.
According to Ms Foo, who is self-employed, it was “raining very heavily” when the accident happened.
She said she saw the driver "climbing out" from the cabin of the truck.
Around two hours after the accident, the truck was still overturned on the close-off entrance, with a long queue of vehicles forming along the adjacent road.
It is currently unknown how the vehicle overturned.
The police said that it was alerted to an accident involving a lorry in a slip road into the TPE towards the SLE at 2.38pm.
“No injuries were reported. Police investigations are ongoing,” it added. TODAY understands that no other vehicles are involved in the accident.
