SINGAPORE — An elderly taxi driver has been taken to the hospital for chest pains after his Trans-Cab taxi caught fire along the Central Expressway (CTE) on Tuesday (July 24).

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it responded to the incident — which took place along the CTE towards the Ayer Rajah Expressway before the Outram Road exit — at around 12.40pm.

The taxi's engine compartment had burst into flames, and SCDF firefighters extinguished the fire using one water jet and two compressed air form bagpacks.

It is believed that the taxi driver, who is in his 70s, did not suffer any burns.

It is unclear what caused the fire, and SCDF investigations are ongoing.

TODAY has reached out to Trans-Cab for comments.
