Two former employees of airport service operator Sats charged with bribery
Lim Koon Chuan and his colleague Chen Baoling are accused of taking bribes when inviting companies to quote for jobs offered by Sats, among other things.
SINGAPORE — Two former employees of Singapore Airport Terminal Services (Sats) were charged on Wednesday (Sept 25) for using their positions to solicit and obtain bribes.
Lim Koon Chuan, 58, a former technical supervisor with the ground handler and in-flight catering services provider, was charged with 21 counts of corruptly getting or trying to get bribes amounting to at least S$196,825 from various contractors.
These were obtained either as reward or as inducement for facilitating the award of tenders, introducing and inviting companies to quote for jobs offered by Sats, or showing favour in relation to their business affairs, the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) said in a press release.
Lim was also charged with one count of transferring S$20,000 to Chen Baoling, a former assistant manager of Sats.
Chen, 37, was charged with one count of receiving the bribe from Lim, despite knowing that the money was Lim’s “benefits of criminal conduct”, CPIB said.
Chen is also accused of receiving S$3,000 from a manager of AT Services, as a reward for inviting the contractor for jobs offered by Sats.
If convicted, Lim and Chen could be jailed up to five years, or fined up to S$100,000, or both, on each charge under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
