SINGAPORE — A 19-year-old boy and a 25-year-old woman were charged in court on Wednesday (June 17) for riding their personal mobility devices (PMDs) with 14 others in April during the circuit breaker.

Nur Muhammad Danish Safhuda Safar Rudin and Izzati Nadirah Ibrahim each face two charges of leaving their home without a valid reason on April 25 and participating in a social gathering.

Court documents showed that from about 1am to 5am that morning, the duo met the 14 others to chat and ride their PMDs at Marina Bay Sands, Mount Faber and along Lower Delta Road in the Bukit Merah area.

Among the group, 10 others besides Danish and Izzati were named in court documents. The other four are unknown.

The police said on Tuesday that the 10 riders and their pillions will be dealt with separately, but no further details were given.

Both Danish and Izzati told the court on Wednesday that they intend to plead guilty and asked for leniency. They will return to court on July 15.

If convicted under the Covid-19 laws or regulations, they can be jailed up to six months, fined up to S$10,000, or both.

In a separate case, a man was also charged with flouting circuit breaker measures in April.

Hun Teck Juan, 63, is accused of stealing a black bra worth S$30 that was hanging on a clothing rack outside a flat at Block 353, Bukit Batok Street 34.

He was spotted loitering around the flat and not wearing a face mask on April 19, the police said.

He faces one charge each of theft, leaving his home without a valid reason and not wearing his mask properly.

He told the court that he intends to plead guilty and will return to court on July 22.

Also in April, a 30-year-old man allegedly scolded Hokkien vulgarities at a safe distancing ambassador from the Singapore Food Agency and an enforcement officer from the Ministry of Health.

They had approached Muhammad Adimin Kemton for not wearing a face mask at Block 18, Upper Boon Keng Road on April 26.

The police said that Adimin threw a popsicle at the safe distancing ambassador, then threw unused disposable masks that he had bought from a nearby store at the enforcement officer’s face.

Adimin faces five charges, including harassment, using criminal force and abusive words against a public servant.

He told the court that his wife is pregnant and asked for a four-week adjournment in order to take her for a medical check-up. He will return to court on July 13.
