Unvaccinated 82-year-old Singaporean man dies of Covid-19 complications; death toll hits 47

SINGAPORE — An 82-year-old Singaporean man who was not vaccinated against Covid-19 has died on Thursday (Aug 19) from complications due to the disease.

In its nightly update on the coronavirus situation here on Friday (Aug 20), the Ministry of Health (MOH) said that the man developed symptoms on July 30 and was admitted to Alexandra Hospital after testing positive for the coronavirus the following day.

“He had not been vaccinated against Covid-19, and had a history of ischaemic heart disease, myocardial infarction, cystic kidney disease and hypertension,” MOH said.

Ischaemic heart disease is a condition where there is a build-up of plaque in the heart arteries. Myocardial infarction is a medical term for a heart attack.

This is the 10th patient in Singapore to die this month from complications due to Covid-19.

There are now 47 deaths and a total of 66,406 infections since the outbreak of the disease here.

On Friday, MOH recorded 40 new cases of Covid-19, of which 37 were locally transmitted.
