Volunteers wanted: Govt calls on private doctors, nurses to help give homebound seniors Covid-19 vaccination
Home vaccination teams have vaccinated 1,200 homebound seniors so far, Health Minister Ong Ye Kung said.
SINGAPORE — In its effort to expand home Covid-19 vaccination operations, the authorities are calling on private doctors and nurses to volunteer to help vaccinate more homebound seniors with mobility issues.
Health Minister Ong Ye Kung said in a Facebook post on Friday (Aug 6) that demand for home vaccinations among seniors is high, and right now, the waiting time for an appointment is about eight weeks.
So far, the home vaccination teams have vaccinated 1,200 homebound seniors, he said, adding that more needs to be done to reach this group of people.
“These… doctors and nurses have been playing a central role in our national vaccination effort.
“They don’t just treat patients, they also show care. They don’t just listen with their stethoscopes, they also listen with their heart.”
Doctors and registered nurses outside the public healthcare sector interested in volunteering to serve under the SG Healthcare Corps may register at shc [at] moh.gov.sg (shc[at]moh[dot]gov[dot]sg).
They may also call the Ministry of Health hotline at 6325 9220.
“Your support will make a huge difference,” Mr Ong said.
