Wetter weather expected over last two weeks of January: Met Service
In a media advisory on Thursday, the Meteorological Service Singapore said that the second fortnight of January will see more showers compared with the first fortnight of the month.
SINGAPORE — Be prepared for wetter weather in the coming weeks as more showers are expected for the rest of the month, which include the Chinese New Year period.
In a media advisory on Thursday (Jan 16), the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS) said that the second fortnight of January will see more showers compared with the first two weeks of the month.
This is due to the monsoon rain band moving closer to the equatorial Southeast Asian region, MSS said.
During this period, the convergence of the winds coupled with strong daytime heating of the land areas are expected to bring thundery showers in the afternoon on eight to 10 days.
However, MSS said that overall, the rainfall for the whole month is forecast to be below normal over most parts of Singapore.
The weather agency added that the daily temperature forecast for most days in the second half of the month is between 24°C and 33°C.
During the fortnight, it can be warm on a few days with daily maximum temperatures of around 34°C, while the daily minimum temperatures could reach a low of around 23°C on a few nights.
CORRECTION: An earlier version of the article stated that wet weather is expected over the Chinese New Year period. This is incorrect. More showers could be expected in the last two weeks of January, not specifically during the Chinese New Year period.
