WhatsApp users report issues with sending, receiving images, videos

SINGAPORE — Users of messaging platform WhatsApp reported issues with sending and receiving images, videos and voice notes on Sunday (Jan 19).

While normal texts appeared to be unaffected, users from the United States and the United Kingdom, as well as some European, Asian and Middle Eastern countries reported having issues with multimedia on the Facebook-owned platform.

Online technology tracker Downdetector showed the reports started coming in at around 7.15pm, Singapore time.

“There are reports that indicate that some WhatsApp users in certain regions are unable to send or receive photos and videos,” Singtel said in a tweet at 9.45pm.

“If you are affected, you might consider using alternative services until this issue has been resolved by WhatsApp.”

WhatsApp has yet to comment on the situation.

It is the latest in a series of outages to hit the Facebook-owned app, with a major incident in March last year leaving users cut off for nearly an entire day. AGENCIES
