SINGAPORE — A 29-year-old man who allegedly stabbed a woman in Queenstown will be charged in court on Saturday (Oct 13) for voluntarily causing grievous hurt by a dangerous weapon.
The incident took place on Thursday at about 10.50pm at Block 146 Mei Ling Street, said the police in a statement on Friday.
TODAY understands that the man knew his victim and allegedly held a grudge against her.
The woman, in her 20s, was taken to the National University Hospital (NUH) conscious but in critical condition. She apparently suffered a cut in her back and lacerations on her right earlobe, right shoulder and elbow, and below her right armpit.
As of Friday evening, her condition is understood to be stable.
The police said that the suspect was arrested on Friday at 9am, after officers from the Clementi Police Division managed to establish his identity through ground enquiries and closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage.
TODAY understands that the man was caught at his mother's home in Teck Whye.
When TODAY visited Mei Ling Street on Friday evening, residents of Block 146 and its neighbouring blocks said they did not hear any screams the previous night and found out about the stabbing through news reports.
If found guilty of voluntarily causing grievous hurt by a dangerous weapon, he could be jailed for life, or up to 15 years and be caned or fined.
