SINGAPORE — Commuters in Yishun will get to enjoy an air-conditioned bus interchange and an underpass linking the bus interchange to the nearby Yishun MRT station by 2019.
The plans are part of the Land Transport Authority’s (LTA) drive to upgrade the interchange into an Integrated Transport Hub (ITH).
LTA announced today (Feb 27) that it will be the tenth site to be upgraded to an Integrated Transport Hub (ITH), being next on schedule after the works at the Joo Koon and Bukit Panjang interchanges complete by this and next year respectively.
Other ITHs are located at Ang Mo Kio, Bedok, Boon Lay, Clementi, Serangoon, Sengkang, and Toa Payoh.
Like the other ITHs, it will be equipped with barrier-free facilities. It will also be built in accordance with the Building Construction Authority’s Green Mark Gold Plus standard, which features such as LED lighting for the concourse and bus-park/driveway areas, and a water-cooled air-conditioning system.
There will also be enhanced amenities for bus drivers and staff, which includes a larger staff lounge, dedicated staff toilets, kitchen facilities and a staff canteen.
To make way for the construction of the new ITH, the existing Yishun bus interchange will be temporarily relocated to an adjacent site at the junction of Yishun Central and Yishun Central 1 from March 14, and it will service all 19 bus services currently operating out of the interchange.
