Singapore's Loh Kean Yew upsets Malaysian world No 8 Lee Zii Jia at French Open
SINGAPORE: Singapore badminton player Loh Kean Yew upset world number 8 Lee Zii Jia in the opening round of the men's singles event at the French Open on Tuesday (Oct 26).
Loh, who is ranked 40th in the world, beat the Malaysian 24-22, 21-14 to move on to the next round. Lee is the current All-England champion and had also beaten Loh at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games final.
Loh, who had won the singles' crown at the Dutch Open earlier this month, will face either India's Lakshya Sen or Ireland's Nhat Nguyen in the next round of the tournament.
In the women's draw, Singapore's top ranked badminton player Yeo Jia Min defeated Belgium's Lianne Tan earlier on Monday. Yeo will face Indonesia's Gregoria Mariska Tunjung in the next round.
