5 things all fragrance buffs must know about Flower by Kenzo

It’s time to bring yourself up to speed.

If you look up the word "iconic" in a dictionary, you would find an image of FLOWER BY KENZO. (Right next to Beyoncé.)

So listen: If you want to call yourself a fragrance buff, you can’t NOT know anything about FLOWER BY KENZO.

Brush up on the basics with these five fast — and fascinating — facts all fragrance buffs must know about this beloved timeless classic.

1. Kenzo invented the "smell" of poppy.

Smell a poppy in real life the next time you chance upon a stalk. Don’t be too #shook when you realise poppies are actually odourless. Instead, the FLOWER BY KENZO scent takes inspiration from the vibrancy of the poppy’s crimson colour.

2. This perfume is sweetly elegant.

So what does this "imaginary" poppy smell like? The Bulgarian rose gives the perfume its sensuality, with white musk lending a lingering powdery note. Don’t worry about smelling too sweet as bourbon vanilla and pink pepper give the scent its spicy kick. This carefully curated blend of ingredient exudes both femininity and class and is bound to leave an impression whenever you walk into a room.

3. The bottle pays homage to the interactions between the poppy and the city.

One glance at the bottle and a towering skyscraper soaring up towards the sky is quickly brought to mind. Its sinuous curves reflect the poppy’s graceful silhouette, and also echo the sensual arch of a woman’s neck. The final flourish are the etchings of poppy blossoms embedded within the bottle, having made their home within the city.

4. It's the brainchild of top nose Alberto Morillas.

Anyone would agree that the poppy is shockingly red. Lauded perfumer Alberto Morillas drew inspiration from the flower’s vibrancy, and combined with his muse, the city and its people, he created the scent we all now know and love. FYI, he is also the mastermind (and master nose) behind several other brands, including Bvlgari, Calvin Klein, Gucci and Issey Miyake. Trés impressive, non? 5. It was first released in 2000 and is now being rebooted as a compact cushion.

FLOWER BY KENZO first made its debut in 2000 to resounding success; it clinched the Fifi Awards for Best Luxury Perfume in 2002. Since then, it has been re-released in a suite of fabulous flankers like Eau de Lumière and L’Éxilir; and as an Eau de Parfum. Joining the lineup will be the FLOWER BY KENZO compact cushion —another boundary breaker which you can find out more about on this page in our special collaboration with the hallowed house.

FLOWER BY KENZO fragrances are available at all Sephora Singapore stores, Kenzo Parfums counters in selected department stores and on www.sephora.sg.
