Christian Louboutin’s Manilacaba bag collection is a fun ode to the Philippines

Get ready to see some loud colours.

Ask any designer how he or she finds inspiration and more often than not, you'll get "travelling" as the answer. Shoe designer Christian Louboutin (aka the man who was Blake Lively's plus one on the Met Gala red carpet recently) is one such person. His wanderlust has given birth to several bag capsule collections in the past, such as the Africaba and Mexicaba that were inspired by his trips to Africa and Mexico respectively.

This time round, he pays tribute to Asia with the new Manilacaba collection, which is inspired by his recent stay in the Philippines — the land of beautiful resorts, sunny beaches and diverse cultures.

Aside from the above, the brightly decorated Jeepneys on the streets of Manila also caught Louboutin’s eyes. These vehicles (old military jeeps that are now being used for public transportation) are a Philippine icon and among the most memorable sights of the country.

All these wonderful sights led the designer to create this fabulously flashy bag collection. The eye-catching designs are embellished with shiny sequins in a finish that resembles mother-of-pearl and sport studded handles — more is clearly more in this collection.

Along with the release of this collection, Louboutin has also pledged his commitment to the Gender Responsive Economic Action for the Transformation of Women (GREAT Women) project in the Philippines — 10 per cent of the proceeds from each Manilacaba bag will go to the initiative in support of South Asian women artisans.

Check out the new Manilacaba collection below. The bags will be available from end May 2018.

The collection also includes a limited edition Piloutin handbag.
