Amid Singapore’s card collecting craze, a specialised trade scrutinising rare trading cards is emerging
As prices for rare Pokemon and sports trading cards soar, collectors are turning to "pre-graders" to decide which cards are worth the cost and wait of professional appraisal and authenticity checks overseas.
Like gemstones, highly collectible trading cards are being judged by tiny imperfections that could mean a difference of tens of thousands of dollars.
Each card is inspected for surface flaws, sharpness of corners, symmetry and more. A tiny imperfection could mean losing thousands in value during final grading.
Only cards in the top condition are sent to companies in the United States, Japan and South Korea for authentication and appraisal.
