Death toll from Nepal-Tibet floods rises to over 450 as rescuers continue search for those missing
Rescue teams dig through mud and debris after a glacial collapse on Wednesday (Aug 26) sent a huge torrent of rock, ice and mud cascading through the Himalayan mountain river systems.
The death toll in Nepal reached 469 on Friday, with almost 1,000 more missing there and in neighbouring Tibet.
Helicopters search for survivors and deliver emergency supplies to communities cut off by destroyed roads and bridges, while soldiers and sniffer dogs scour devastated areas for bodies.
Many of the missing are foreign tourists, including trekkers in Nepal and scores of Hindu pilgrims returning from Tibet’s sacred snow-capped Mount Kailash.
