Thai Airways to clear 5,000 bags stranded at Bangkok airport

Around 5,000 bags from Thai Airways flights remain stranded at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport after intense rain and flooding hit the Thai capital.

Thai Airways chief executive Chai Eamsiri said on Tuesday that the airline expects to clear the stranded bags within 72 hours.

Bangkok’s main airports continued operating through the weekend, but some baggage handling operations at Suvarnabhumi Airport were severely disrupted by the rain and flooding.

Bangkok received around 320mm of rain over two to three days last week – nearly as much as the low-lying city typically receives during the entire month of September.
