1,000 beverage container return points to be placed across Singapore from April
When the Beverage Container Return Scheme starts on Apr 1, nine in 10 Singapore residents will be within a five-minute walk of a return point. There will be about 1,000 return points across the island, at locations such as major supermarkets and high-traffic areas. Consumers will receive a 10-cent deposit back for their beverage containers. Smaller reverse vending machines can hold up to 1,000 containers, while larger units that are likely to be placed at public housing void decks can hold up to 2,000. Plans are also underway to double the number of return points to 2,000 within the first year. Claudia Lim reports.
