2004 Indian Ocean tsunami: SCDF responders recall two-week overseas mission
Singapore's Civil Defence Force was among the first to respond to the deadly 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. The two-week operation remains the SCDF's largest overseas mission to date. In total, SCDF helped to recover over a hundred bodies. Some of those involved are still serving today. They told CNA how regional coordination and preparedness have improved. One initiative is the ASEAN Regional Disaster Emergency Response Simulation Exercise (ARDEX), which was launched a year after the tsunami. Aslam Shah reports.
