The space for independent journalism is shrinking worldwide. In its latest measure of press freedom, media rights watchdog Reporters Without Borders reported a fall of the index to its lowest level in 25 years, warning of a widening global crackdown. It says the global decline is being driven by authoritarian governments, political pressure and weak safeguards.
