Alex Yam on Constitution and Penal Code Amendment Bills relating to Section 377A
If a religious institution declines to conduct a blessing or ceremony for a same-sex or transgender couple, could it be subject to a lawsuit? This scenario was raised by MP Alex Yam in Parliament on Monday (Nov 28) as he asked for clarity on protection for non-government entities against legal challenges over the issue of marriage. Mr Yam also welcomed the proposed Article 156 in the Constitution as an affirmation of the role and importance of traditional marriage and family in shaping Singapore society and said that on the basis of its passage, he was prepared to support the repeal of Section 377A of the Penal Code.
