The Land Transport Authority (LTA) conducts enforcement actions against drivers found to have provided illegal carpooling services. An individual who provides an illegal carpooling service may face a fine of up to S$3,000, up to six months’ imprisonment, or both. Those who provide an illegal carpool matching service may face a fine of up to S$10,000, up to six months’ imprisonment, or both. Senior Minister of State for Transport Amy Khor said this in parliament on Thursday (Mar 6) in reply to an MP’s questions. She also said that members of the public who come across individuals providing illegal carpooling services may notify LTA through the OneMotoring portal. She added that LTA will work with the taxi and private-hire vehicle drivers’ associations on a campaign to improve public awareness of the allowable forms of carpooling.
