Amy Khor on installation of recording devices in taxis and private-hire cars

02:08 Min

Since 2019, taxi and private-hire car drivers have been allowed to install passenger-facing video recorders with audio functions in their vehicles with prior permission from the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and only at LTA-authorised installation centres. Recordings can only be accessed for investigation and enforcement, such as in fare-related disputes, and only by authorised personnel. Drivers cannot install and use unauthorised recording devices such as their own mobile phones. In cases where passengers have recorded an interaction and shared it online without the driver's consent, the driver can seek recourse, including under the Protection from Harassment Act. Senior Minister of State for Transport Amy Khor said this in Parliament on Wednesday (Nov 22) in reply to an MP’s question.
