Ang Wei Neng on growing Singapore’s hawker culture
In Parliament on Wednesday (Nov 13), MP Ang Wei Neng shared his experiences in building a temporary market to tide over hawkers when a market in Jurong Central was destroyed by fire before a new market and eating house was built, as well as in revitalising Jurong West Hawker Centre, taking into account community feedback and with tenants enjoying benefits under a social enterprise operator. He also spoke about schemes in his constituency to help residents cope with the rising cost of living. Mr Ang said his experiences underscore the Government’s steadfast support for hawkers and vulnerable residents, adding that the authorities will continue to listen, adapt and improve policies to benefit hawkers and their patrons.
