Hope of finding survivors in Nepal-Tibet disaster is decreasing: Nepal Emergency Operations Centre
A growing human toll and rescue teams stretched to the limit a week after a glacier collapse triggered catastrophic floods across Nepal and Tibet. The Nepal Emergency Operations Centre says hope remains, but the prospect of finding survivors is decreasing. In Nepal, at least 1,100 people are dead and nearly 4,000 unaccounted for. In Tibet, Chinese state media says 16 people are dead and around 500 are still missing. Meanwhile, access to some parts of the disaster zone is improving. The only road to the Gyirong border crossing on the Chinese side has fully reopened, allowing heavy machinery and rescue teams to reach the area by road, for the first time.
