73 South Koreans accused of online scam operations repatriated from Cambodia

02:52 Min

73 South Korean citizens have been repatriated, after being accused of running online scams in Cambodia. They landed in Seoul this morning and were immediately handed over to the police. The 65 men and eight women — the largest group returned so far — are accused of scamming about 1,000 fellow Koreans out of nearly 50 billion won, or about US$33 million. They are part of a broader crackdown as South Korean authorities target sprawling scam compounds in Cambodia. South Korean officials estimate up to 1,000 South Koreans may still be inside scam centres in Cambodia, some as suspects, others possibly as victims. Lim Yun Suk reports from Seoul.
