Baey Yam Keng responds to motion on reinforcing Singapore’s position as a global transport hub

Singapore’s investments in transport, research and innovation are strengthening its transport system today while preparing for the future, said Minister of State for Transport Baey Yam Keng. By investing in both innovation and its people, the government aims to build a transport system that not only serves the future generations well, but also one that they will help to shape, he said in parliament on Tuesday (Jul 7). He also stressed the need to prepare for what lies ahead. Besides limited space and growing climate challenges, a key challenge is tightening manpower. This is why the government is investing in autonomy to fundamentally improve how operations are carried out. It will focus on new operating models for autonomous vehicles, vessels and robotics across the port, airport and logistics network. Once developed, the government will pilot these solutions with industry. Singapore can serve as a real-world living lab to test and deploy these solutions at scale, said Mr Baey.
