Bangladesh seeks extradition of ex-PM Hasina from India amid US$5b embezzlement probe
Bangladesh is formally seeking the extradition of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The ousted leader has been living in exile in India after fleeing student-led protests in August. The foreign ministry said Hasina can be brought back under an existing extradition treaty between Dhaka and New Delhi. Meanwhile, the anti-corruption agency has launched a probe into Hasina and her family over an alleged US$5-billion embezzlement linked to a Russian-backed nuclear plant.
