Budget 2024 debate: Desmond Tan on more accessible career and job services
Career and job services will be made more accessible as designated centres run by Workforce Singapore (WSG) are transferred to the labour movement. Under NTUC’s Employment and Employability Institute (e2i), personalised career coaching, job matching and skills upgrading will be brought closer to those who need it across Singapore, including in the heartlands. This was announced by Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office and NTUC Deputy Secretary-General Desmond Tan in Parliament on Tuesday (Feb 27). He said it is more urgent than ever to step up training and upskilling efforts as the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) and automation leads to job displacement across sectors. This is affecting many professionals, managers and executives (PMEs). Amid a wave of layoffs locally and globally, Mr Tan urged workers to join NTUC for better protection.
