Budget 2025 debate: Jessica Tan on senior employability and long-term care services
In parliament on Wednesday (Feb 26), MP Jessica Tan noted that despite Singapore’s high employment rate, the pace of change and technological changes have led to job insecurity and anxiety. In particular, she expressed her worry over the impact of job disruptions on mature workers. Touching on long-term care services for seniors, Ms Tan reiterated her appeal for a review and refinement of the means test criteria for senior long-term residential and non-residential care. Noting that the cost of eldercare services is “not insignificant’, she asked if consideration could be given for “at least a tiered support” for those with no per capita household income and live in properties with an annual value greater than S$21,000.
