Budget 2025 debate: Liang Eng Hwa on achieving long-term fiscal sustainability

16:51 Min

The ability to always have significant stable funding to tackle short- to longer- term challenges and yet be able to invest for a better future and still have savings for rainy days is what makes Singapore budgets unique and distinctive, said MP Liang Eng Hwa. Speaking in parliament on Wednesday (Feb 26), he reiterated the key “mantras” for Singapore on prudent fiscal management and growing the economy to generate top-line revenue “which are critically important to achieve long-term fiscal sustainability”. In addition to seeking clarification on the computation of the fiscal surplus, Mr Liang also requested for the government to consider extending its support to families with three or more children in terms of housing, such as giving them priority when they apply for bigger flats.
