Budget 2026 debate: Charlene Chen on productivity and helping Singaporeans reach their potential

12:26 Min

For Singapore to stay competitive and cohesive, it must invest in enabling every Singaporean to reach their potential, said MP Charlene Chen, who elaborated on the concept of productivity in parliament on Tuesday (Feb 24). She added that for long-term productivity, young people must see credible and coordinated pathways ahead. She also stressed the importance of investing in soft skills that help navigate setbacks, as a “burnt-out population cannot be a productive one”. Dr Chen also called for a broader, healthier definition of success, and highlighted a need to ensure that the next generation is resilient and capable, inclusive and united.
