Budget 2026 debate: Eileen Chong on how AI should not just improve productivity, but liveability

17:01 Min

As Singapore seeks to harness AI as a strategic advantage, it should consider not just how AI can improve productivity, but how it can give Singaporeans their time back, said NCMP Eileen Chong. This is a core question, she said - what does it mean to live well in Singapore as it charts its next phase? Ms Chong said people need more time and energy to be present for their families and to nurture a "we first" society. She also called for more space for people, especially youths, to grow, explore and become themselves. If AI is changing the nature of work, it must also change what we value in education, she said. She spoke in parliament on Tuesday (Feb 24).
