Budget 2026 debate: Mark Lee on support for firms to adopt AI, commercialise IP and grow abroad
If Singapore wants AI and robotics to meaningfully raise productivity and preserve competitiveness for businesses, the investment signal must decisively shift behaviour at scale, NMP Mark Lee said in parliament on Tuesday (Feb 24). He called for a “different incentive logic” that reduces risks at adoption, then rewards firms which deliver measurable productivity gains. Mr Lee also spoke about the need to strengthen value creation by accelerating the commercialisation of intellectual property, particularly among small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), as well as boosting internationalisation by helping SMEs cope with challenges in higher-risk markets and scale through structured collaboration.
