Building A Good Start
Singapore’s preschool sector has transformed dramatically over the decades: from uneven provision of childcare and kindergarten programmes with varying teaching standards, to a professionalised, highly regulated sector with enough places to accommodate 80 per cent of Singaporean children. Today, its curriculum frameworks are grounded in evidence-based approaches and informed by a deeper understanding of early childhood development and psychology.
This documentary explores how Singapore’s approach to early childhood education has evolved and what it takes to give every child a strong start. Through the experiences of educators, parents and children, alongside the policymakers and experts shaping the sector, we examine the changing role of preschool: from care and supervision to nurturing children’s development and wellbeing. The programme also looks at the challenges facing the sector, including educator workload and financial pressures on families, as well as how policy and technology are supporting educators.
