Cassandra Lee on Land Transport and Related Matters (No. 2) Bill

12:05 Min

In accidents involving autonomous vehicles (AVs), responsibility may fall to multiple parties including operators and technology providers, said MP Cassandra Lee. She asked if Singapore could adopt a principle of compensating the victim first, if those issues take time to resolve. She added that the onus must be on operators to ensure that their technology can operate safely around pedestrians on public paths, and asked that the authorities expressly assess how AVs respond to seniors, young children and people with mobility or other special needs. Ms Lee also wanted to know if operators will be made to bear the costs and risks associated with parking and charging autonomous delivery or service vehicles, should they eventually be deployed at scale in neighbourhoods. She spoke in parliament on Wednesday (Oct 7).
