Chan Chun Sing on job market for polytechnic graduates
Based on the 2024 graduate employment survey conducted by the five polytechnics, about 45 per cent of graduates were economically active. Among this group, there was a decrease in the full-time permanent employment rate and an increase in the unemployment rate, compared with 2023. The impact was uneven across course clusters, with health sciences, and humanities and social sciences continuing to see strong employment outcomes while those from courses such as engineering and information and digital technologies have higher unemployment rates. Some graduates who received full-time permanent job offers declined them for reasons such as a perceived lack of work-life balance. Education Minister Chan Chun Sing highlighted these trends in reply to MPs’ questions in Parliament on Tuesday (Feb 4).
