China sanctions Philippine defence chief Gilberto Teodoro over 'erroneous remarks'

China and the Philippines locked in a diplomatic spat, after Beijing imposed sanctions on Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro. China's foreign ministry said Mr Teodoro repeatedly made "erroneous remarks" that harmed Beijing's interests and bilateral ties. Mr Teodoro, his wife and child have been banned from entering mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau. Chinese individuals and organisations are also prohibited from conducting business or engaging in any form of cooperation with them. Foreign Minister Theresa Lazaro said the Philippines prefers diplomacy and dialogue over an "unfriendly act" that further complicates ties. Tan Si Hui reports from Beijing.
