China's top diplomat Wang Yi has accused Washington of holding "persistent misperceptions" of Beijing, even though he acknowledged that bilateral ties have improved in recent months. He was speaking to the media on the sidelines of China's ongoing annual political meetings, and stressed for what he calls the "Chinese way" of diplomacy. As for the recently concluded Taiwan election, which put the pro-independence Democratic Progressive Party back in the presidential office for a historic third term, Mr Wang said the polls were "just a local election".
