Choo Pei Ling on Health Sciences Authority (Amendment) and Other Matters Bill

The Health Sciences Authority (Amendment) and Other Matters Bill moves functions, offices and enforcement powers into one agency. It does not, on its own, create new rules for the technologies that make this coherence necessary, such as AI-enabled medical devices. MP Choo Pei Ling shared this observation in parliament on Wednesday (Sep 9), saying the real test of the restructuring lies in what the Health Sciences Authority does with the structure it has been given, not in the structure itself. She wanted to know if the Ministry of Health could commit to a defined point at which the restructuring success will be assessed against indicators like cross-domain processing times and stakeholder experience to provide a sense that the changes have delivered the coherence they promised.
