Committee of Supply 2022 debate, Day 1: Desmond Choo on NS training amid COVID-19 pandemic
The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) has gradually resumed training for national servicemen (NSmen) as Singapore transitions to living with COVID-19, said MP Desmond Choo in Parliament on Wednesday (Mar 2). He asked the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) for its plans to recall NSmen in the coming year. He also noted that many NSmen have not had the opportunity to participate in large-scale overseas exercises due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but stated that with the gradual reopening of global borders, overseas exercises must continue to be scaled up to pre-pandemic levels. He asked MINDEF to share its plans to resume larger-scale overseas exercises in 2022.
