Committee of Supply 2022 debate, Day 1: Desmond Choo on technology for strong defence force

01:52 Min

Singapore's low birth rate is a significant challenge to its defence strategy. The number of full-time national servicemen is projected to decrease. The Ministry of Defence and Singapore Armed Forces will need to "do more with less", said MP Desmond Choo. Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday (Mar 2), he said new technologies have enabled the SAF to better optimise manpower resources and complete tasks better, more efficiently and with less manpower. He asked for an update on plans to leverage technology to ensure that Singapore's defence strategies remain robust despite a declining population.
