Committee of Supply 2022 debate, Day 1: Tin Pei Ling on Smart Nation strategy

03:24 Min

Singapore may be physically limited, but it can be "virtually unlimited", said MP Tin Pei Ling. Will the Government roll out e-residency to allow highly talented "digital nomads" and businesses to transact and value add to Singapore's economy without having to reside here and compete for physical space? They can become Singapore's digital economic residents, but without the need for citizenship entitlements. This can bolster Singapore as a global hub and value add to its community. Ms Tin, who asked this question in Parliament on Wednesday (Mar 2), also wanted to know if there will be a change to the way Singapore will be envisioned as a Smart Nation as the world competes for top talents. She also asked about whole-of-Government efforts to ensure seamless, user-friendly and age-friendly e-services.
