The Government intends to amend the Misuse of Drugs Act to better regulate new psychoactive substances. It will introduce a new legislative framework to regulate them based on their potential to produce a psychoactive effect. Minister of State for Home Affairs Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim signalled this in Parliament on Thursday (Mar 3), saying this would allow the Government to be more responsive to emerging forms of drugs. He said the details will be shared in due course. He said that while the local drug situation remains under control, there are areas of concern. The Government will strengthen its pillars of prevention, education and rehabilitation to fight the drug scourge.
