Committee of Supply 2022 debate, Day 2: Nadia Ahmad Samdin on retaining legal talent
A record number of 538 lawyers left the profession in 2021, most of whom were in the junior category. For Singapore to maintain its position as a global dispute resolution hub, it has to have good people and stay competitive. Making these points in Parliament on Thursday (Mar 3), MP Nadia Ahmad Samdin asked what plans the Government has to work with the legal sector to attract, manage and retain young legal talent sustainably in the long run. She also wanted to know if there are structural or skilling concerns that have to be addressed to meet the evolving legal needs of Singapore’s society and economy.
