Committee of Supply 2022 debate, Day 2: Tan Wu Meng on self-representation in divorce proceedings

02:26 Min

There are spouses who choose to represent themselves in divorce proceedings despite finding the legal system complex and having to navigate it while juggling work and family responsibilities. Some earn too little to engage a lawyer, but too much to qualify for legal aid. Saying he has encountered such cases before, MP Tan Wu Meng asked if the Ministry of Law has looked into why they arise and whether the system can be streamlined for litigants with limited means. He spoke in Parliament on Thursday (Mar 3).
