Committee of Supply 2022 debate, Day 2: Xie Yao Quan on outcome-based security contracting
The operating model and mindset of the private security industry, particularly in the residential sector, are still very much about having "warm bodies" on site for tasks that technology can already do, said MP Xie Yao Quan. Speaking in Parliament on Thursday (Mar 3), he said more needs to be done to help the sector progress beyond the "headcounts mentality" which explains the manpower shortfall and "unsustainable shifts" for existing officers. He asked if the Government has plans to uplift security officers, encourage "women participation" in the sector and enhance respect for the profession by society at large.
