Committee of Supply 2022 debate, Day 3: Koh Poh Koon on extension of Jobs Growth Incentive, protection for gig workers
The Jobs Growth Incentive wage subsidy scheme will be extended for another six months to September 2022. However, it will only apply to vulnerable groups of workers - those who are older and have not worked for at least six months, persons with disabilities and ex-offenders. Support levels will also be tapered down. This was revealed by Senior Minister of State for Manpower Koh Poh Koon in Parliament on Friday (Mar 4). He also gave updates on the work of an advisory committee looking into better protection for platform workers. The committee is considering requiring platform companies to make CPF contributions to support the workers’ retirement and housing needs, as well as the idea of setting up unions to represent them.
