18:57 Min

Singapore's libraries and archives will be refreshed as important "learning marketplaces" and to plug users into the digital world. Their role has been highlighted during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the movement curbs in the country, 64 per cent of residents visited libraries or accessed their online content last year, said Parliamentary Secretary for Communications and Information Rahayu Mahzam. Speaking in Parliament on Friday (Mar 4), she outlined the key initiatives under the Libraries and Archives Blueprint 2025 to provide a wide array of learning opportunities. One way is to work with leaders in innovation and technology. More collections will be made accessible to the public. A comprehensive suite of accessibility services for persons with disabilities will also be made available. There will be "nodes" in spaces such as offices, food and beverage outlets and parks to get people to read and learn whenever and wherever they can.
